Virtual IPs
When a Rallypoint group is assigned to a channel or other resource in Instant Connect, clients relying on the group attempt to connect to any Rallypoint defined in the group (and which are meshed together). Each member Rallypoint advertises only one hostname or IP address at which it can be reached (visible just below the name of the member server in the ICE Desktop user interface).
However, any individual Rallypoint (or group of Rallypoints) may have other addresses or names associated with them. These are referred to as 'virtual IPs.' To assign alternate points of ingress into the mesh, an administrator can define one or more virtual IPs. Clients connecting into the mesh will attempt to connect to these addresses, in addition to the addresses of the member servers, when establishing a link to the Rallypoint mesh.
